Professional Prospects of Management Studies

Professional Prospects of Management Studies

One of the most popular specialties abroad, which young people choose after completing their secondary education, is management. What is this profession? Who can be a manager? Let’s take a closer look at this profession.

The essence of the specialty of a manager is simple: he manages or, more precisely, it develops plans, organizes processes, motivates staff, controls execution, and coordinates all this at every stage.

The peculiarity of the profession is that it covers all industries – from IT to stone mining and oil refining. A manager is a universal leader who can debug processes at any level with resources. There are also disadvantages. In the profession, you need to learn and quickly rebuild constantly. This is a high responsibility, with a maximum load. All this generates a high-stress level, which not everyone knows how to cope with. Many leading management universities in the UAE, like City University Ajman, offer a wide range of management programs that students can choose based on their preferences and long-term objectives.

Pros And Cons Of Being A Manager

Pros:

  • Good career prospects.
  • High demand in various fields.
  • Opportunity to make good money.
  • Constant communication with different people and the development of useful connections.
  • Mobility – frequent business trips and meetings are possible.

Minuses:

  • High level of competition in this area.
  • Often the busy pace of work and stressful situations.
  • Responsibility for making decisions.

A particularly common misconception is that a manager is none other than a salesperson. Almost every company has a whole staff of sales managers involved in selling goods. Every large store has its own manager, designed to resolve conflict situations with customers. From the point of view of the volume and content of the tasks to be solved, they are by no means directly related to management itself.

So What Is This Profession?

A classic manager (manager) is not engaged in sales and communication with clients but in coordinating the work of subordinates, organizing the work of the enterprise (providing labor, raw materials, etc.), controlling, evaluating, and correcting the activities of the work of subordinates, predicts possible failures in work and deals with their prevention. In addition, he is obliged to deal with the solution of socio-psychological problems, his duties also include material and moral incentives, regulation of interpersonal relations in the team, defending the interests of employees, and managing staff turnover.

There Are Usually Three Levels Of Classical Managers

Line managers are the junior management team that manages the employees directly. These are foremen, heads of departments or small subdivisions, etc. Such specialists can have any level of education. Usually, university graduates start their careers from this step.

Middle managers are managers above the previous category. These include, for example, heads of workshops in production and directors of branches. Such managers have diplomas from higher educational institutions in the specialty “management” and management experience for several years.

Senior managers or top managers. The smallest and most qualified category of managers is practically the pinnacle of a managerial career. Even in the largest companies, there are only a few such managers. A typical position at this level is the CEO. Such a level of management requires higher education in management, and sometimes even several educations and an MBA degree.

In the first year of a management university, general subjects such as mathematics or foreign languages are required. Starting from the second year, students will pay more and more attention to economic specialties. Introduction to management also begins in the second year; in the first year, students will lay the foundation of basic knowledge.

By the end of a management university, students will receive full knowledge about managing an enterprise, processes, and people.
